Redang Marine Park Fee and Rules Explained

What the conservation fee actually pays for, and the ground rules that keep Redang's reefs worth visiting.

What the Marine Park Fee Actually Is

Redang and the surrounding waters sit inside a protected Marine Park, managed by Malaysia's Department of Marine Park. Anyone entering the water within the park boundary โ€” whether for snorkeling, diving, or just swimming โ€” is required to pay a conservation fee, which goes toward reef protection and marine park management.

On SurayaRedang's day trip package, this fee is already included in your RM120 price โ€” you don't pay it separately at the jetty or on the island.

Why It Exists

Redang's reefs are a big part of why the water looks the way it does, and reefs are slow-growing and easily damaged by contact, anchoring, or pollution. The marine park fee funds ranger patrols, mooring buoys (so boats don't anchor directly on reef), and conservation programs that keep the ecosystem healthy enough for diving and snorkeling to keep being viable here long-term.

Rules You'll Be Asked to Follow

Why Crew Instructions Matter More Than They Seem

When our crew tells guests to stay off a particular patch of reef, keep a distance from a turtle, or move to a different spot, it's usually a marine park guideline, not just a personal preference. Following these instructions is part of what keeps the reef in good enough condition for the next group of guests โ€” and the one after that.

Do I Need to Bring Anything for This?

Not really โ€” there's no separate permit to arrange yourself, since the fee is bundled into your package price and handled by our team. The only practical thing worth doing in advance is packing reef-safe sunscreen, since it's a small choice that has a real cumulative impact on the reef over time.
